Often times, incoming documents which contain sensitive information are scanned, processed, and then stored only to be retrieved later by either the public or enterprise workers with a lower level of security. The solution is often found through a simple means referred to as redaction. This is not a new concept or technology; however, how it is applied in an automated means has changed quite a bit thanks to the new technologies being provided by PaperFree.

• Structured Forms Redaction Solution
  This is the simplest means to redact but provides the least amount of flexibility. This only applies to those instances where all incoming documents for redaction are in a structured, consistent, repeatable design. The redaction can be done either manually or through the use of OCR\ICR technology which searches in a defined and 'isolated' method to redact certain fields that occur in the same area on the same document type every time.
• Free Form Redaction Solution (unstructured form types)
  This is the most difficult and often complex means of redaction. This applies in those instances where the incoming documents have no structure, consistency or repeatability in their design. Traditionally, the only means to redact these types of documents is to have a human operator manually view each and every page and then apply redaction where needed. This can be very time consuming and costly if you are dealing with large volumes of documents.

  Thanks to new technology developed by both PaperFree and EMC, there is now the ability to provide automated means to redact for ‘Free-Form’ documents in a very efficient and cost effective manner. With the help of EMC's Dispatcher product suite, PaperFree is able to provide a redaction solution that can search throughout any document type (including multi-page documents) and redact fields from anywhere on the document with the highest level of accuracy. This new approach allows customers to spend minimal amounts of time reviewing documents and manually redacting.

Our redaction solutions are designed around and can be provided as a full-featured robust data capture platform as well. This can provide the ability to customize and add flexibility to your system if you choose:

• The ability to provide special workflow and/or review queues
• The flexibility to review and manually redact for those instances where human confirmation is an absolute requirement
• The ability to choose to create and send multiple copies of the document image upon processing completion. For example, send one copy of the 'burnt' (permanent) redacted image to the less secure repository and another copy of the original (un-redacted) image to the secure repository for safekeeping.
